Yahoo Mail Policy Change Could Impact Your Email Deliverability
Yahoo has announced a major inbox policy change taking effect August 27, 2025. Any Yahoo Mail account that exceeds its free storage limit will no longer be able to send or receive email until the user frees up space or purchases more storage.
- Messages sent to Yahoo addresses over the limit will hard bounce.
- A spike in bounces can negatively affect your sender reputation and deliverability across all domains, not just Yahoo.
- Many financial institutions send important account alerts, fraud notifications, and offers to Yahoo users using Core iQ or other email platforms — and those messages could be blocked.
What you should do now:
- Identify your Yahoo recipients (@yahoo.com, @ymail.com, @rocketmail.com).
- Send a notice encouraging them to free up inbox space before Aug. 27.
- Offer alternate contact options so they can still receive important communications.
- Monitor bounces after the change and update your suppression rules.
We’ve prepared "plug-and-play" email content you can use to notify affected customers or credit union members. Feel free to customize it for your brand. Please reach out to our support desk at support@onovative.com if you have any questions.
